Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is a health insurance provider in Michigan. They’ve been working to serve the needs of their customers since 1956 when UAW President Walter Reuther sought an alternative to traditional health insurance for union members. They have also been offering services to Medicare members for over 20 years. The company became HAP in 1979 following a study to determine how HMOs could be improved to serve the Detroit market. This resulted in an alliance between several hospitals and Metro Health Plan, creating the Health Alliance Plan.
