Best Medicare and Best Medicare Advantage

Amerigroup was founded in 1994 to meet the needs of those enrolled in the public programs like Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid. There was a rapidly growing need for private help in managing the healthcare programs for lower income and disabled Americans. Amerigroup created the Senior and Special Services Organization (SSO) in 2006. Amerigroup's SSO initiative concentrates on utilizing Amerigroup's assets to produce unique improved health care services for seniors and the disabled.

Products offered are targeted towards the elderly and those with disabilities. In 2007 Amerigroup was the first in the healthcare industry to develop a National Advisory Board. The focus of the Board is on meeting the needs of seniors and disabled members. The Board is chaired by Lex Frieden who was also involved in the creation of the Disabilities Act of 1990.

Currently Amerigroup has over 180,000 members, making it one of the leading managed care organizations in the nation for ABD (Aged, Blind and Disabled) beneficiaries. They operate in 10 states including Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and New Mexico. They are headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA. They offer a variety of plans intended for those eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), FamilyCare, Long Term Care, and SSI: Supplemental Security Income (designed to assist low income individuals sometimes known as the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (ABD) population).
