USAA was founded in the 1920s after a group of Army officers insured each other’s automobiles, forming a member-owned insurance company. The organization now serves more than 7 million individuals and is the only comprehensive financial services business in the United States. They are still headquartered out of San Antonio, Texas and also have branches in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Las Vegas, Nevada; Norfolk, Virgina; Phoenix, Arizona; Sacramento, California; and Tampa, Florida.

 

USAA stands for United Services Automobile Association, but they offer more than car insurance to military members and their families. Some of the services offers are auto and property insurance, life insurance, banking, financial planning and investment services.

 

USAA services are only open to members. Membership is only available individuals who have served in the United States military (including all active, honorably discharged, and retired individuals), children, widowers and widows of USAA members who have already had a USAA policy, and people working to become officers via a commissioning program such as ROTC.

 

USAA Life General Agency, (LGA) Inc. contracts with Humana Insurance to provide Medicare Advantage and Prescription plans to USAA members.
