Premera Blue Cross is a non profit health insurance agency affiliated with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Premera Blue Cross operates out of Mountlake Terrace, Washington, and offers services in Seattle, Spokane, and Anchorage. Premera has been a presence in Washington since the 1930s and began operations in Alaska during the 1950s.

 

Premera Blue Cross is one of the premier health insurance companies in Alaska and Washington, licensed by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield association. Premera has many different options for Medicare coverage, including Advantage HMO and PPO plans, Medigap policies, and prescription medication plans. Premera boasts a health care provider network of over ten thousand physicians and specialists and over one hundred hospitals.

 

Premera’s Washington network consists of nearly 20,000 healthcare professionals and 100 hospitals. The Alaska network is about 1,000 healthcare professionals and 20 hospitals. There are more than 2,900 employees throughout Alaska and Washington state. Premera provides health insurance and related services to over 1.6 million members.

 

They offer a wide range programs including Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans, Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) plans, Medicare Supplement, Traditional Coverage, and Dental.

In Washington there are four Medicare Supplemental plans to choose from. Along with these plans Premera offers an Extras! program which offers savings on health and wellness items and programs. Also offered is a free 24-hour NurseLine. Washington residents may also be eligible for Medicare Supplemental Plans E and J.

 

The first supplemental plan available, Plan A, covers all your basic benefits and necessities. Plan C adds coverage for your deductibles, skilled nursing care, and emergency care when you travel abroad.  Plan F includes all that the first two plans cover plus 100 percent of any excess charges deriving from Part B. Plan I includes all that the first three plans cover, but does not cover the Part B deductible. Plan I additionally offers at-home recovery care coverage. Plan J includes all that Plan I covers, plus the Part B.

 

In Alaska there are currently five plans offered. Along with these plans Premera offers an Extras! program which presents savings on health programs and other products.  Also offered is a NurseLine available free of charge 24 hours a day.
