Aetna offers Medicare Advantage, Medicare Rx and Medicare Supplement plans. When choosing the appropriate Medicare plan, key areas to consider are what the out of pocket costs are, whether the plan allows the beneficiary to choose in network or out of network doctors (PPO versus HMO), hospital expenses and the amount of skilled nursing and in-home recovery coverage the plan offers.

The difference between HMO and PPO plans in Medicare is that PPO, or Preferred Provider Organization plans offer beneficiaries the choice of their primary care physician and the choice of what health care provider they would like to go to at a higher copay rate. Health Maintenance Organization plans also tend to be more affordable.
